Spring has Sprung @ Mountain Blvd!

Happy Wednesday, Parents!

Today we’re sharing a roundup of some wonderful activities we’ve been enjoying at Mountain Blvd. Our month of gardening, exploring plants and insects and so many other things related to spring is in full bloom.

First up, thank you to all the families who participated in this year’s Garden Shin-DIG! Have you seen the big red, ripe strawberry just waiting to be picked? There will be plenty more of those in the days ahead. Here are some photos from our day in the garden:

A note from Ms. Crystal on how we dyed eggs today with homemade dye:
Homemade dye recipe:
1/2 cup hot (warm, kid temp) water
1 tsp vinegar
About 20 drops of food color
Hard boiled eggs to dip

Creative tips:

  • We used a white crayon and decorated the eggs, before dyeing them, the wax was resilient to the water color and made a neat design. It was interesting to see the designs appear after dyeing the eggs.
  • The longer you leave the egg in the dye, the darker the color appears.
  • Another neat idea is to wrap a rubberband around the egg, dip it in the dye, when the egg is dry, take off the rubberband and admire the neat pattern!
  • Next year we want to try and use real food to make dyes! (Blueberries, beets, and onions!)

We’re looking forward to celebrating with everyone Thursday!
